District heating companies are serving both energy supplier and end-user. Rising energy prices and carbon targets mean it is no longer sustainable or affordable to run our district heating systems on gas.

In the EU alone, more than 70% of heating and cooling is generated from fossil fuels. In principle, industry can rather easily decarbonize their electricity consumption, just buy green electricity. The real challenge is how to decarbonise industrial heat.

The market for energy efficient pump systems in industry is expected to reach $16.3 billion by 2025. The market is highly competitive, with a number of companies offering a wide range of products and services.

There were 180 million heat pumps operational worldwide in 2020. That number needs to rise to 600 million by 2030 to be on track to meet a goal of net zero emissions by 2050. The EU is a recognised technology leader in heat pumps.

Electric motors account for more than 40% of global electricity consumption. Without efficiency improvements, global energy consumption from electric motors is expected to rise by 13,360 TWh annually by 2030.
