Event: AI & Digital Platfrom enabling the Circular Economy Transition
Resumo
The CircularPSP project, funded by the EU's Horizon Europe programme with a €5.64 million investment, aims to encourage European cities to adopt a Circular Economy (CE). It involves a consortium of eight major cities and networks managing the transition for a population of 45 million. This initiative responds to the critical need to move away from the linear "take, make, dispose" model that results in significant resource use, waste production, and greenhouse gas emissions, predominantly from urban areas. The project focuses on large-scale implementation challenges, municipal operation enhancement, and local economic adaptation to CE practices.
CircularPSP is centered on innovative procurement for AI and platforms to assist cities in transitioning to CE. It promotes open access to developments and testing through a Follower Network of cities and networks that can join without commitment. The second Follower Event, in collaboration with the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), discusses the outcomes of the CircularPSP Tender and ongoing work. Five selected suppliers will present their approaches to addressing the circular economy transition's challenges, alongside the release of a CE Taxaxomy for cities and a roadmap inviting solution testing. The event is open for registration but will not be recorded.

Event: AI & Digital Platfrom enabling the Circular Economy Transition
The transition to a circular economy is not just a lofty environmental goal; it is a critical imperative for cities worldwide. Urban areas are the engines of global economic growth, responsible for over 80% of the world's GDP. However, they are also at the heart of the sustainability crisis, consuming 75% of natural resources, producing 50% of global waste, and generating more than 70% of greenhouse gas emissions. This unsustainable linear model of "take, make, dispose" is leading to resource depletion, environmental degradation, and economic inefficiencies.
The CircularPSP project, a pioneering initiative funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe programme, is set to facilitate a new approach in which municipalities across Europe transition towards a Circular Economy (CE). This ambitious project brings together eight leading cities and cities network: Berlin, Helsinki, London, Istanbul, Sandyford, Guimarães, the City Network Sweden, and the City Network Slovenia, representing 45 million citizens.
With a substantial investment of €5.64 million in Research and Development (R&D), CircularPSP aims to address the common challenges that cities face in implementing circular practices on a large scale, enhance municipal operations and the local economy's ability to adopt circular economy principles and practices.
WHY CIRCULARPSP
CircularPSP is an innovation procurement for AI and platform to support cities in their CE transition. To open access to developments and future testing, we have established a wide-reaching Follower Network of cities and networks. The event is open, and any party is invited to become a Follower without commitment.
