As the STORMING project enters its final phase, consortium partners gathered on 5-6 March 2025 in Lyngby, Denmark, for the project’s fifth Consortium Meeting, hosted by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The meeting provided an important opportunity to review technical progress, coordinate the final project activities and ensure that the innovative methane cracking technologies developed throughout the project are successfully communicated to industry, policymakers and the wider hydrogen community.
As the leader of Work Package 6 (Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation) and a contributor to Work Package 5, focusing on the social acceptance of hydrogen technologies, EEIP plays a central role in ensuring that the project’s scientific achievements reach the audiences that can benefit most from them.
Preparing STORMING for Project Completion
With the project approaching its conclusion, partners used the two-day meeting to align final technical activities, review progress across all work packages and prepare the remaining deliverables.
Representatives from the consortium shared updates on reactor development, catalyst optimisation, industrial validation and exploitation planning, ensuring that the project remains on track to deliver its objectives.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the long-term impact of STORMING beyond the lifetime of the project, including future collaboration opportunities and pathways for bringing methane cracking technologies closer to industrial deployment.
EEIP Driving Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
Successful innovation depends not only on technological excellence but also on effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
Throughout the project, EEIP has led the development and implementation of the communication and dissemination strategy, ensuring that STORMING’s progress reaches researchers, industry, policymakers and other stakeholders interested in the future of low-carbon hydrogen production.
During the consortium meeting, EEIP presented updates on ongoing dissemination activities, reviewed communication performance and outlined the final outreach actions that will accompany the project’s conclusion.
The discussions also focused on maximising the visibility of the project’s achievements through publications, digital communication, policy-oriented materials and participation in relevant European events.
Understanding the Social Acceptance of Hydrogen
Alongside communication activities, EEIP contributes to assessing the social acceptance of hydrogen technologies, an increasingly important aspect of Europe’s clean energy transition.
Technological innovation alone is not enough to ensure successful market uptake. Public awareness, stakeholder confidence and industry acceptance all influence how quickly new hydrogen production technologies can be adopted.
During the meeting, EEIP presented progress on the project’s social acceptance activities, sharing insights into stakeholder perceptions of hydrogen and discussing how communication can help improve understanding of innovative production pathways such as methane cracking.
These findings will contribute to the project’s final recommendations, supporting future deployment of cleaner hydrogen technologies across Europe.
Collaboration Across the Consortium
The fifth Consortium Meeting brought together representatives from the project’s ten partner organisations to coordinate the final phase of STORMING.
Discussions covered progress across all work packages, remaining technical milestones and the preparation of final project outputs. Particular attention was given to ensuring that scientific results, industrial demonstrations and communication activities remain closely aligned as the project moves towards completion.
The meeting also reinforced the importance of collaboration between technical experts and communication specialists, ensuring that the knowledge generated throughout STORMING can continue creating impact beyond the project’s lifetime.
Looking Ahead
With the project entering its final months, EEIP will continue leading communication, dissemination and exploitation activities while supporting the completion of the project’s social acceptance assessment.
Upcoming activities include the publication of final communication materials, dissemination of the project’s key results, engagement with policymakers and industry stakeholders, and promotion of STORMING’s innovative contribution to cleaner hydrogen production.
